Dear Students, Staff, and Stakeholders,
I am so excited about being Scotland Early College High School's Counselor. This is my third year with SEarCH. Prior to this, I was a bereavement counselor for FirstHealth Hospice of Pinehurst, a School Based Mental Health Counselor for Carver Middle and Laurel Hill Elementary, and a rotating crisis and risk assessment counselor for multiple schools in Scotland County. I have been a School Counselor since 2007 and a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor since 2000. I love working with students of all ages and backgrounds.
I was born and raised in Scotland County and graduated from Scotland High School. I completed my bachelors at Salem College and my masters in Counseling at UNC-G. I also have a masters in School Administration from Gardner-Webb University. I am currently working on completing my doctoral in counselor education and supervision with Walden University.
In my free time, I enjoy being with my family, exercising, cooking, baking, and cleaning. My husband and I have three children. Our oldest recently graduated from Scotland High School and is a junior at East Carolina University. Our other two attend Scotland County Schools.
I am a firm believer that every student is unique and has unique needs. At the same time, there are some needs we all share. Food, water, shelter, sleep, clothing, safety, love, acceptance, and respect are all required for success in school and life. My wish is that I can help, along with my amazing co-workers, to ensure that these needs are met for all students.
Respectfully,
Emily T. Smith
